Bill and
Cathy took Danny and Bart to the Averasboro Fiber Festival near Erwin,
NC where they were a big hit. We also had raw fleece, roving,
yarn, and finished products for sale.

Cathy was
the Show Event Coordinator for the annual Carolina Alpaca Celebration in
Concord, NC where farms from Maine to Florida and west to Ohio,
Kentucky, and Tenneesee brought over 600 aniamls for competition in a
Level IV AOBA Certified show.
Kipling
Pines Alpacas show Bart, Mable, and Prissy, the three cria born on our
farm last May and now 9 months old. Mable and Prissy took ribbons
in their classes.
Mark your
calendars now to attend this event February 21-22, 2009 at the Cabarrus
Arena and Event Center in Concord.
September 29, 2007:

National
Alpaca Farm Day
was a huge
success with over 150 folks of all ages in attendance
It
was a chance to touch the wonderful fleece from the alpacas and earn
what makes them so loved and why products made from their fiber are so
luxurious!

The spinners on the porch had a great time sharing their craft with
folks of all ages!

Alpaca yarn and products were available for purchase!

The Beasleys from Four Oaks brought their local honey for sale in
addition to sheep yarns! See the photo
gallery page for more pictures of Farm Day.

Alpaca Health

National Student
Veterinarian Symposium
NC State Veterinarian School
On a cold spring morning,
Kipling
Pines Alpacas
was pleased to host Dr. Allen Cannedy and students from a number of U.S.
veterinary schools, including Purdue, Kansas State, NC State, Univ. of
Missouri, Texas A & M, Univ. of Illinois, Auburn and Cornell.
Under Dr. Cannedy's able tutelage and
watchful eye, these students, at various stages of their vet training,
participated in trimming nails, giving injections, oral de-worming,
collecting fecal samples, and performing pregnancy ultrasounds.

We were impressed with their enthusiasm, courtesy, and obvious concern
for the welfare of the alpacas. It was a great privilege to have such a
group of dedicated students on our farm.

Vet Tech, Andrea, contributes a great deal to the service our farm
receives from Dr. Cannedy on a regular basis.
February 17-18, 2007:
Over 500 alpacas and their Owners came from 19 states to
compete at this
AOBA Certified Show in 2007

It
was a huge success!
This was the first full-fledged AOBA-certified
halter and fleece show to be held in North Carolina.
It took many long hours with little sleep to pull
this off, but the volunteers of the Carolina
Breeders and Owners, CABO, (for which Cathy currently
serves as President) are proud of their accomplishment.

Kipling Pines Alpacas
brought home three ribbons - a 4th for Dusty, a
5th for Jasmine, and a 6th place for Danny in some very stiff
competition. (Cathy and Jasmine are third from the right.)

One of the highlights of the show included seminars and some free
advice to breeders and prospective owners by Marty McGee Bennett (shown
with Dusty above) who holds clinics worldwide on camelid behavior and
handling and training techniques.
